RSGB YOTA TEAM HANDS OVER FLAG TO SA<\/strong> – The official handover from the RSGB YOTA Team to the SARL YOTA Team took place on Friday afternoon, 1 June 2018, in Friedrichshafen. The SARL Team received the YOTA flag as well as the symbolic Begali YOTA morse key. The SARL Team showed a video as background and introduction to the YOTA 2018 event in August in South Africa. Two months to go! <\/p>\n

The most prestigious event on the International Amateur Radio Union Region One (IARU -R1) youth calendar is the \u201cYoungsters \u2013 on \u2013 the \u2013 Air \u201c(YOTA) Summer Event. This year, South Africa and the South African Radio League (SARL) are honoured to host this international event.<\/p>\n

This is a first for Africa, and a first for South Africa to host this major youth event. Eighty participants aged from 16 to 25, and from over 30 countries have been invited to attend a fun-filled week of Amateur Radio from the 8th to the 15th August 2018.<\/p>\n

This annual event brings together young people from various IARU R1 member societies in Africa and Europe for an entire week. This week creates, in addition to amateur radio, the opportunity to learn all about different nationalities and cultures, foster international friendships and goodwill as well as learning new communication and technical skills.<\/p>\n

The event will be held in the beautiful central region of Gauteng, providing participant\u2019s access to South Africa via O.R. Tambo International Airport.<\/p>\n

This event is organised by the SARL Youth Working Group and supported by a dedicated events team.<\/p>\n
